Expedition 2025
Weather was mixed, with whiteout conditions on several days, storms that threatened to tear down our camp, and solar radiation that left us unable to achieve some of the ski objectives we had our hearts set on. Windows of clear skies that offered incredible views across the peaks and icefalls did come our way and allow us to accomplish some great objectives.Â
We’ve made solid progress navigating crevassed terrain and high passes, including Barnard, Bulyea, Gilgit, Waitabit, Mt Walker and Nanga Parbat shoulder. The scale and remoteness of the Freshfields are staggering — it’s a humbling environment that demands constant attention and teamwork.
I am really proud I was able to lead an expedition of this size for a client like Thompson Rivers University. It just goes to show that when I believe in myself any dream is possible and with the support of my sponsors it can be an incredible success.Â
We were however, like most parties who have ventured into the arms of the high alpine (camp at 3000m) in the Canadian Rockies chased out by inclement weather. Making the call to fly out a few days early instead of enduring a 7 day storm was a difficult decision but with the help of my second guide and the crew at Alpine Helicopters in Golden we made the right call.Â
